RODDICK FALLS TO SERB
Andy Roddick has been defeated in the second round of the men’s singles tennis tournament of London Olympics by Novak Djokovic. The Serbian superstar defeated Roddick in the straight sets by 6-2, 6-1. This year hasn’t been good for Roddick so far. His performances in the three Grand Slams this year were pretty average. His fans were expecting him to flourish in the Olympics, but, Roddick has disappointed his fans by giving another bad performance. Djokovic defeated Roddick in just 54 minutes.
Roddick is a brilliant player on the grass court and he has always performed brilliantly in Wimbledon. He has been in the finals of Wimbledon three times before. So, people were expecting this match to be a close one. But, that didn’t happen and the match was completely one sided. Djokovic attacked Roddick right from the outset. He broke the service of Roddick in the sixth game of the first set and took a lead of 4-2. After that blow, Roddick was not able to come back into the match. In the second set, Djokovic broke the service of Roddick twice (in the second game and the sixth game). Roddick is renowned in the world for his powerful service, but, his service was wonderfully controlled by Djokovic. Djokovic fired a total of 14 aces in the match.
After the match, Roddick said that he played well in the match, but, it was hard to control Djokovic. He played brilliantly from the baseline. On being asked about the retirement, Roddick answered that he is not thinking about the retirement at the moment. He can still play quality tennis at the top level and it is not the right time to think about retirement. On the other hand, Djokovic was pretty happy to move into the third round. In the third round, Djokovic will play against the former Wimbledon champion Lleyton Hewitt.
