Video Rating: 4 / 5

@quinin17 Overall, I’d say he was very good. But against Sampras he was great. He had a great strategy against Sampras.. He forced Sampras to hit BH after BH after BH, which is not what Pete likes at all. Corretja stepped in and took Pete’s serves early and made him play a ton of low volleys. This often forced Pete into more baseline rallies which Corretja turned into clay-court rallies. It was a brilliant strategy, especially when Pete’s 1st serve wasn’t on.

How come you included so many mistakes/missed first serves by Sampras? Hardly makes it look like a great match!

  • By quinin17, July 21, 2010 @ 10:20 pm

Álex was a great player no?

  • By cj397, July 21, 2010 @ 10:39 pm

@VerdascoFan yeah verdasco’s groundstrokes are wonderful forehand is beautiful and backhand is very consistent and good form

  • By VerdascoFan, July 21, 2010 @ 11:23 pm

i like the strokes of other players in that era though. kafelnikov had a beauty of a Bh. others also have great strokes. however, i dont like sampras’.

  • By VerdascoFan, July 21, 2010 @ 11:44 pm

@cj397 yes i know…thats why i like verdasco’s strokes better. sampras was a sick serve and volleyer i know. i like verdascos strokes more thats all. im not trying to say hes better/ im just statibg my opinion

  • By cj397, July 22, 2010 @ 12:06 am

@VerdascoFan different time they grew up back then in dude, there is a generation difference, rackets were much different then, the entire game was different.

he’s not going to have modern groundstrokes ESPECIALLY when he was a serve and volleyer

  • By extradutyfelt1, July 22, 2010 @ 12:33 am

@federerownz absolutely, why the hell would someone say something like that…pete has a very nice style of play, his serve motion is one of the most beautifull looking thing´s ever, in the sport..

  • By federerownz, July 22, 2010 @ 12:55 am

@extradutyfelt1 yes i agree with you 100% but when you call one of the best male players of all time strokes ugly and shit?…its a little disrespectful to the game dont ya think

  • By extradutyfelt1, July 22, 2010 @ 1:27 am

@federerownz don´t you think that, the player, who has the best looking playing style, is an individual personal choice for each person..

  • By federerownz, July 22, 2010 @ 1:57 am

Sampras strokes ugly? hahahhaha obviously you dont understand true fundamentals of the game. Sampras has the most fluid and beautiful game ever!

  • By jyy82993, July 22, 2010 @ 2:37 am

Sampras was a champion, even with a weak backhand, haha.

  • By VerdascoFan, July 22, 2010 @ 2:59 am

@lionhunter43 I’m not saying he wasn’t a great athlete. I love his serve and volleys. They’re incredible. I just don’t like his strokes…. I love Verdasco’s strokes. He can hit any shot. Obviously Sampras is better.

  • By lionhunter43, July 22, 2010 @ 3:34 am

@VerdascoFan No disrespect to you or verdasco, but Sampras has done much more than Verdasco has with his “ugly” strokes

  • By jhgosnell, July 22, 2010 @ 3:50 am
